Dream...Discern...Design...

"The Animal Emergency Center, located at 2100 W. Silver Spring Drive in Glendale, WI, has won an international award for excellence in veterinary hospital design. The small animal hospital received a Hospital Design Competition Merit Award, sponsored by Veterinary Economics, an international business magazine for veterinarians.

Judges praised the hospital's dramatic entryway, exceptional exterior, and efficient floor plan. Dr. Rebecca Kirby, of Germantown, WI, owns the 11,600-square-foot hospital, which was designed by Richard Suminski AIA of Balestrieri-Kehoe and Associates Inc, Elkhorn WI.

"Dr. Kirby's hospital helps set the standards for veterinary services", said Marnette Farley, editor of VETERINARY ECONOMICS."

"As architect, Rick Suminski guided our building project from conception through ribbon cutting. The result - an award winning veterinary emergency and critical care referral facility! He created a beautiful environment that provides excellent patient flow with optimal utilization of space.  Each room had a different requirement, from temperature and ventilation to  lead lining to visibility and efficiency.  He was on-site regularly, ensuring that the project was progressing to our standards.  Because of his attention to detail, the project came in on time, within budget and exceeded our expectations.

Five years later, it was time to expand our original facility and he was the obvious choice for architect. The challenge was that the current facility had to remain in full operation throughout construction. Rooms had to be converted from one function to a totally different function. The new addition would have new anesthesia and surgical suites, the doctors’ station, and a larger intensive care unit.   Providing uninterrupted patient care required that he coordinate perfect timing of room completion and that the contractors minimize the dirt, dust, debris and noise.  The result was a beautiful addition that met our expanding needs, completed on time and within budget.  Thank you. Rick!"

"We had a great experience working with our architect, Rick Suminski. Our project was complicated; we entered a contractual agreement with the city, county and state to remediate a contaminated Brownfield in Milwaukee County.  Despite the set-backs, restrictions and many plan changes, he brought us through with flying colors.  It is 8 years later and our building is sound and doing well; despite needing a special floating slab foundation due to existing soil conditions.

Rick was very patient and answered all our questions, working with us on cost and zoning issues as an intermediary with the city.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him."
